just un-plug your dead speaker and show it in the speaker shop.

Temporary connect a small 9 volt battery to the disconnected speaker, this is a good way of checking if the speaker is working and its polarity. The Speaker cone should move forward if the battery polarity is correctly connected to the speaker.
I have had a couple of problems with trapped /shorted and damp speaker cables . This would give me the same reading you were looking for . I think the best way Is to remove the stereo and do a continuity test between the speaker and stereo/amp.
